Remote Desktop is only available in the Windows XP Pro version. If the system is XP Home, Remote Desktop is not available.

Remote Desktop can only be running on 1 PC in a Network environment due to Incoming Port Forwarding restrictions on the Router/Firewall. Microsoft does not recommend changing the Forwarding Port 3389, it has problems with certain features if the port is changed.

Remote Desktop has better performance because it is embedded in the Operating System and it does not rely on external security from a secondary program or service like pcAnywhere.

Symantec pcAnywhere is available on all Windows Operating systems. You are required to purchase a license for every computer it is installed on.

pcAnywhere can run on multiple computers, this is done by simply changing the Incoming Port.

Summary: If you are running Windows XP Pro, and you only need access to one Computer, then Remote Desktop is the best choice. If you need Remote Access on multiple computers on the same network you have to go with pcAnywhere.
